Markus Demleitner

Me and my machine (tucana...)

I won't give a boring and vain self description but instead refer you to a Google query likely to tell you more about me than I would. Note, however, that I am not a member of "Opel-Freunde Neunburg vorm Wald". Ah, those where the days when I used to rule supreme queries for Demleitner.

A publication list is available from ADS (which is where I used to work). It's embarrassing, even though I'd like to point out that it is not entirely complete.

I now work at Astronomisches Rechen-Insitut in Heidelberg on the GAVO project.

Before that, I spent quite a few years at the Seminar für Computerlinguistik (you may guess that this could be translated as computational linguistics -- however, I somewhat prefer the term "natural language processing"). And no, although I admit to having cooked up the UNiMUT Schwobifying Proxy, it has absolutely nothing to do with computational linguistics. I did this years before I even dreamt of joining SCL and got involved in serious natural language processing.

I'm not going to tell you what other stuff I'm into without being paid. Suffice it to say it's too much.

For those who are interested in such things, I've studied physics and astrophysics, wrote my diploma thesis on sticky particles in swing-amplified density waves (you can find a published article in A&A 331, 485 (1998)) and I'm still offering my help to all radio astronomers (or people doing Fabry-Perot Hα stuff on extragalactic HII regions) wanting to prove that there's swing amplification going on out there. My PhD (2000) was on global solutions for modes in Mestel disks. There's a publication on it in A&A 371, 68 (2001), but since the fulltext isn't freely available, you'll probably want to pull it from astro-ph (it's astro-ph/0103091, actually). Courtesy of our university library, straight edgers can also get the entire thesis.

You could also check out a collection of hacks I felt I should put on the net.

I get oodles of spam anyway, so there's no harm giving my e-mail address here: msdemlei@ari.uni-heidelberg.de

I am also an activist in privacy (so much so that I won't even tell you which organizations I work in). So, do send me encrypted mail. My public key is
